Local Dog Writers Team Up at Woofstock with Canine Books!
Chagrin Falls, Ohio — On Sunday, September 8 (10 am to 4 pm) when Rescue Village hosts Woofstock, its annual dog festival and fundraiser, local authors Timy Sullivan and Mary Motley will be joined by K9 mystery writer Tracy Carter to meet fans and talk about their books as they share an authors’ booth. The event will take place at the Cleveland Metroparks Polo Field (Ohio 87 and Chagrin River Road in Moreland Hills.)
Timy Sullivan (Chagrin Falls) and Mary Motley (Sagamore Hills), the team behind Deafinitely Awesome: the story of Acorn, Acorn’s Awesome Dictionary of Signs and their Acorn Project activity book, increases awareness of deaf shelter dogs and preparing them for adoption. They will also promote CITY DOGS Cleveland, the organization that benefits from their work and receives all proceeds.
Deafinitely Awesome: The Story of Acorn is the uplifting story of a tiny, orphaned puppy and the woman who takes him in, changing both their lives forever.
Acorn is completely out of control when he is brought to the city kennel. Cute as he is, no-one wants to adopt him because he just won’t listen. But then an experienced volunteer named Mary decides to take him home – just for a night – to give the kennel staff a break. That’s when she discovers that Acorn doesn’t listen because Acorn can’t hear. Acorn is profoundly deaf.
Determined to prepare the little dog for adoption, Mary develops a sign language just for him and, in short order, teaches him everything a well-trained dog needs to know. Along the way, she falls in love and the two become a team, reaching out to help other deaf dogs shine. Details at Acorn-Project.org.
Award-winning author Tracy Carter (Chagrin Falls) weaves her legal background and dog training experience into her Veronica Kildare K-9 Mystery Book series. The cozy mysteries showcase diverse canine service jobs while the protagonist solves a different mystery in each book.
Tracy’s inaugural novel, Dogged Pursuit, was released in 2022 and was the Gold Medal winner in the 2023 Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards Contest in the Fiction-Animals genre, as well as the 2023 Audio Book Reviewer’s Award for Best Mystery, Female Sleuth; and is a National Indie Excellence Awards Finalist. Her new release Lawyers, Dogs, and Money is debuting to positive reviews and is a 2024 American Fiction Awards Finalist in the Mystery/Suspense-Cozy genre.
The debut book, Dogged Pursuit, opens with escalating suspense and intensifies into a resilient fight for survival. With its engaging combination of canine and human personalities, thrilling plot, and gorgeous Colorado backdrop, the canine caper will appeal to dog lovers, outdoors enthusiasts, and mystery lovers alike.
In the newest book, Veronica possesses a natural affinity for training dogs and a passion for locating missing people. As Lawyers, Dogs, and Money unfolds, Veronica trains peanut allergy alert and prison contraband sniffing dogs and joins her search and rescue colleague, a Deputy Sheriff for Boulder County, in trying to ascertain the source of threats against Kadri Ilves, a co-worker of Sgt. Donovan’s daughter at a high-end import/export business. Details at TracyCarterBooks.com.
